Hello Friend, My name is Jamio (Jay-mee-oh), and I want to personally thank you for visiting my site. I was born in the mid-west on Nov. 2, 1970, and moved to Northern California as a small child. I have been drawing and painting since early childhood. Throughout middle school and high school, I had little interest in any subject other than art, and enrolled in art classes at every opportunity. I went on to earn an Associates Degree and a Graphic Arts Certificate from SJDC. From there, I went onto earn a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Art with honors from California State University Stanislaus in 1998. In 1997 I started my professional career as graphic designer, illustrator and concept artist. Now with nearly ten years experience, I hold the position of Art Director for an automotive aftermarket company in Lodi, CA. There my job duties include package design, logo design, concept art and supervision of two senior designers. I enjoy creating commercial art equally as well as personal artwork. My personal work is highly influenced by the Masters works of Durer, Holbein, Caravaggio, Grunewald and DaVinci.I am also equally inspired and influenced, however, from the many creative endeavors of both visual and literary artists who have dwelled into the darker realms of human psyche. The cover art of 1930's through 1950's horror pulp novels and comics as such as "Weird Tales", "Tales from the Crypt", "Eerie", "The Haunt of Fear", and "The Vault of Horror" have been a tremendous visual influence my work. The film noir horror classics such as Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman have also had great influence my work. I also have an interest in the tiki craze of the late 1950's, which inspired me to make the "Dark Side of Tiki Series". As much as I love painting, I equally love design. I am also a big traditional hot rod and custom car enthusiast, (see my ride!) and my design work is influenced by some of the magnificent pinstripe work I've seen at traditional custom car shows throughout California. Tiki culture, retro-inspired space age, googie design and motifes that decorated homes, diners, advertisements and architecture of the late 50's and early 60's, are also a big influence on my design work I want to make special mention of my wife and son. My wife has given me tremendous support and encouragement in my art career, and my son is my biggest fan. Without her moral support none of this could be possible. Your friend, Jamio |
