Those operating in the market today cannot ignore the general acceleration in the pace of change that is leading many companies to question how to exploit the potential offered by digital technology to keep their businesses efficient and consistently competitive.
Companies vary greatly in their level of digital maturity, yet there's always the risk that digital investment will be limited to simply acquiring tools, neglecting the crucial cultural and organizational changes.
But what is the much-talked-about Digital Transformation Program?
The term transformation refers to the transition from an AS IS to a TO BE made possible by the introduction of digital technology , which allows traditional activities to be carried out in a new way; in a word, to innovate.
The word " program" suggests that this transition must be planned over time and its organizational impact studied to fully grasp the potential of the process.
In this program , it is necessary to always consider the investments already made and the organizational impacts of new ones, since to obtain tangible benefits, the two assets must be integrated by enhancing existing systems without radically altering the organization.
This is why at Openwork , we have been talking for some time now about Innovation-Friendly , the rapid and sustainable digital transformation based on the inclusion of cloud Business Process Management technology in the organization.
How is this approach different? First of all, it doesn't overturn the company's organization but rather integrates with existing technology and supports the processes performed by various professional figures, starting with business managers. The Innovation-Friendly doesn't impose itself as a digital revolution, but translates into the introduction of technology that complements the existing ERP, enables the management of processes involving business managers, and enhances the individual productivity tools already in use.
Furthermore, the minimally traumatic integration into the organization takes into account the most important asset for any company: its people , who aren't overwhelmed by the new technologies introduced but continue to operate with familiar tools and methods, integrated into new and more streamlined processes. Thanks to this integration method, the organizational benefits are immediately noticeable in everyday work, in the management of operations, and in process control .

“COLLABORATE”: here's the platform for a distributed fashion lab

BPM enters the world of fashion thanks to the “Collaborare” developed in Ametlab , a clothing production laboratory founded in 2014 that decided to involve other companies in the sector in a new way of conceiving the fashion supply chain.
With an innovation-friendly approach, Ametlab is reorganizing its processes to improve order management , restructure the network of participating laboratories, regulate warehouse logistics , and bring all stakeholders, including suppliers and customers, onto a single web platform to better manage order flows. The project's ambition doesn't end here: a second phase has already been designed, which will focus on design consultancy processes and the creation of digital models and prototypes, which will also be integrated into the platform to ensure secure, simple, and innovative management.
The numerous operational phases associated with the operational flow, from customer order analysis to requirement determination, assignment of the order to suppliers, industrial production of the garments, and order closing, constitute the solution built on the BPM platform, enabling innovative process management. The solution, built on the Jamio openwork platform, allows for specific needs:
- Facilitate collaboration among all stakeholders in the fashion supply chain participating in the project to increase turnover and limit periods of low production;
- engineer and optimize production and activity planning processes;
- simplify and speed up the purchasing and selling processes of manufactured products.
The entire operational flow and the stakeholders involved—collaborators, suppliers, professionals, procurement procedures, and production—find the cloud platform ideally positioned to be optimized and hosted entirely, from order receipt to order closing.
This innovative solution reflects the challenging concept behind the fashion network promoted by Ametlab: a single platform instantly provides access to all information related to the production process, allowing for timelines to be monitored, ensuring optimal division of tasks, workloads, and rules of engagement. It also allows for measuring the network's performance, enabling it to compete effectively on the market.
A "modular and re-modular enterprise" that was achieved for the first time thanks to a visionary entrepreneurial intuition and the reliability and flexibility of the Jamio platform.
That IT Governance problem called PEC

Larger and more structured organizations have long understood that certified email management cannot be approached in an " amateur " manner by relying on webmail and standard email clients.
The reason lies in the unique nature of conversations handled via certified email. Informal email conversations generally present a low risk of information loss, partly because at least one party is interested in requesting a response. Formal email conversations, on the other hand, sometimes contain peremptory information that, if not responded to and/or adequate management procedures are not implemented, can result in significant financial damage
Ultimately, just because you can "afford" not to follow up on an email doesn't mean you can "afford" not to follow up on a certified email.
The use of webmail and/or email clients is therefore not helpful in ensuring optimal PEC management and exposes organizations to operational risks . For this reason, public and private entities are increasingly seeking professional solutions Enterprise" class , to manage the problem.
Various vertical solutions are available on the market, some of which are, in practice, dedicated clients that are more advanced than the standard ones designed specifically for managing PEC messages.
A different application approach can be achieved with a cloud-based Business Process Management . This choice translates into clear advantages for users, which we'd like to explain.
Behind a certified email (PEC) message lies a complex organizational process, the management of information and document flows, the organizational members involved in a project, and the potential need to integrate other systems. These are aspects that a BPM platform can effectively address, reducing the operational and financial risks associated with inappropriate use of certified email (PEC).
By orchestrating these services through BPM , it's possible to separate the organization from the certified email inboxes, a crucial aspect for larger organizations. Indeed, when there are dozens or hundreds of operators and multiple email inboxes to manage, it's possible to create solutions that solve this IT governance problem and overcome all the limitations that traditional certified email management systems cannot overcome:

- Limited box space;
- Data dispersion between PCs and operators;
- No centralized sorting management;
- No controlled management of times and deadlines;
- Complicated IT management;
- Mass mailing not feasible;
- Uncontrolled message handling;
- Difficult to identify receipts.
Since this is a uniquely Italian issue, very few BPM platforms offer dedicated services for managing certified email inboxes and messages, allowing for the implementation of solutions of this type. One such platform is Jamio Openwork.
By introducing these services dedicated to the management of certified email inboxes and messages into its platform, Openwork has solved all these problems, enabling the creation of solutions that allow:

- Activation in a very short time thanks to the power of the cloud and the high configurability of the standard solution;
- To simplify IT governance;
- Reducing operational and economic risks;
- To introduce a platform that can be “exploited” both vertically to make the solution increasingly customized according to specific needs (thanks to the availability of Jamio openwork in source ), and horizontally to develop many other BPM solutions on the same platform.
This is why numerous public and private organizations have already adopted the Jamio openwork BPM platform for certified email management, while others are doing so once they have verified our solution's suitability for their specific organizational needs and its cost-effectiveness compared to other vertical solutions.
Openwork and the Polytechnic University of Bari have joined forces to create a Business Process Management Competence Center.

Many organizations manage their operations in a non-integrated manner, with little attention to overall processes. This can negatively impact performance.
With the aim of bringing the organizational world closer to a "process-based" culture, Openwork and the Polytechnic University of Bari have established a specialized center to study and disseminate knowledge on ways to improve business processes, proposing sustainable solutions in social, environmental, and economic terms. This Center of Competence on Business Process Management (BPM) not only disseminates knowledge of processes and BPM throughout the region, but also aims to train professionals specialized in these topics, a virtuous example of collaboration between the business and academic worlds.
For this reason, project work , training internships , and theses on these topics offer a tremendous opportunity for technology transfer in both directions, to and from the university. This is a great opportunity for students to apply the theoretical concepts they learned during their studies and to engage with local realities. It's also a great opportunity for the public and private organizations that host the students, who, through direct experimentation, understand the enormous potential that adopting a process-based approach can bring.
Finally, this is a great opportunity for teachers, who can engage with the local business community and initiate mutual growth processes. By combining their academic vision with a business perspective, it becomes easier to develop well-prepared professionals ready to enter the workforce.
Furthermore, the Competence Center promotes research activities, in particular by exploring three topics:
- BPM reachness, i.e., BPM methods and solutions capable of serving not only single, well-defined organizations, but networks of organizations and people with blurred and shifting boundaries, adapting and integrating, context-dependent and agile, with solutions already used by network members;
- BPM richness, that is, methods and solutions that can complement the traditional problem-driven typical of BPM with an opportunity-driven approach , linked to the exploration of new opportunities and innovative process management, thus transforming opportunities and visions into new processes. This can happen by delving into the areas of social media, big data, Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things, or Sustainable Business Process Management;
- Case Management, i.e. methods and solutions for managing knowledge- and coordination-intensive that develop in an unpredictable .
An ambitious and innovative project, made possible thanks to the valuable contribution of Openwork and the professors of the Polytechnic University of Bari.

Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari and Head of the BPM Competence Center
