MAGAZINE N.24 Public Cloud: 2021 marks a strong growth trend

In 2021, global spending on cloud services for end users is projected to grow 23.1%.
Gartner 's latest forecast for the current year, confirming an upward trend likely triggered by last year's pandemic, as stated by Sid Nag (VP Research – Gartner) who states that "The events of the past year have enabled CIOs to overcome any reluctance to move mission-critical workloads from on-premises to the cloud ."

Although Covid-19 has significantly accelerated the growth of the public cloud , according to Sid Nag , "even without the pandemic, there would still be a loss of appetite for data centers."
This enormous growth in cloud service offerings is characterized by different market segments: SaaS (Software as a Service) leads the way, with spending expected to reach approximately $122.6 billion this year. PaaS (Platform as a Service) and BPsaS (Business Process as a Services) are also among them, with total spending expected to reach $59 billion and $50 billion, respectively, according to Gartner (in 2021).

This significant shift to the cloud stems from the need for companies to adopt infrastructures capable of managing complex workloads and, above all, generating a hybrid workforce, as confirmed again by Nag, who underlines the strategic role of the cloud: “ It will further evolve from serving pedestrian use cases such as infrastructure and application migration, to those that combine the cloud with technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, 5G and more […] In other words, the cloud will act as a glue between many other technologies that CIOs want to use more, enabling them to address more complex and emerging use cases.”

The ISO 55000 standard defines an asset as any entity that has real or potential value for an organization, be it machinery, equipment, infrastructure, facilities, people, economic resources, etc. The same standard also explains the concept of asset management as the set of coordinated activities performed on assets that can deliver this value to an organization.
This value can be created in various ways and at various times, leading to financial service levels , customer satisfaction , etc. To manage these various assets, an organization must integrate and share business processes and define and provide guidelines, rules, and responsibilities for them.
