Why the choice of Overture
On the occasion of Jamio's tenth anniversary on the market , we would like to take a brief look at the name of the product and the names of the various releases .
The name Jamio unites two worlds: music and computing . Jam was born from the Jam Session : different musicians improvise together, maintaining their own identities but creating a single performance; io, on the other hand, harks back to the language of computing, evoking the concept of Input/Output : the continuous exchange of information between people, applications, and systems, the basis of every digital process. The Jam Session is the most spontaneous and collaborative expression of music. During a Jam Session , each musician maintains their own identity, language, and tempo, but contributes to a collective performance where value comes from harmony, not uniformity. It's the same idea that, from the beginning, inspired Jamio openwork: connecting different people, processes, data, documents, and systems, allowing them to operate as a single organism without losing their autonomy.
From this dual inspiration—the collaboration of the Jam Session and the connection between systems—Jamio openwork was born. And it is from this same musical metaphor that, over the years, the names of the platform's main releases have taken shape. It was never simply a matter of randomly choosing a name: each choice reflected the evolutionary moment of the platform and the way we interpreted the market at that precise moment in time.
Flute was born in December 2015. The flute is the most essential instrument: it represents the first sound, the beginning of the journey. A few months later, Sax arrives . The product finds its own voice and its positioning in Business Process Management takes shape. In 2018, Marimba accompanies the functional growth of the platform: a rich sound, composed of many notes that coexist harmoniously. In 2020, it is the turn of Harp , a symbol of the parallelism and maturity achieved in the era of no-code and citizen development .
Mixer arrives in 2022. It marks the first shift in perspective: no longer a musical instrument, but rather what allows instruments to play together. Mixer introduces the concept of orchestration, which has become central to the evolution of organizations today.
Mixer's four years have been years of work under the surface. As the market began to talk about AI, Jamio was building the foundation to govern an increasingly distributed, automated, and interconnected organization. Today, that work is emerging, and Ouverture.
In opera, the overture is the piece that opens the performance. It doesn't introduce a single instrument, but the entire orchestra. It's already complete music and, at the same time, it anticipates the themes that will be developed in the opera, and the listener knows, after the overture, where it's going.
