Work is progressing on the Southern Pole , the centre of expertise for Industry 4.0 made up of eight universities from Puglia and Campania and companies from the two regions: among those from Puglia there is also Openwork .
The hub's activities will focus on various sectors: automotive, aerospace, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals . The Polytechnic University of Bari will coordinate the activities in Puglia, which will also coordinate collaborations with Confindustria and the Digital Innovation Hubs present in the region.
The hub will not have two distinct "souls," one in Puglia and the other in Campania, but slight differentiation will inevitably occur depending on the collaborating companies. A total of 48 large and medium-sized companies, many of which are already involved in collaborative projects with the Polytechnic (such as the BPM Competence Center launched with Openwork ), have offered their participation.
The Southern Pole shares the same mission as all the planned competence centers: promoting technology transfer to businesses , particularly SMEs, to harmonize the expertise available locally. The three functions envisaged in the call for proposals are training, orientation, and research projects.
Universities responsible for training, while guidance will involve private sector providers, who will be able to identify the opportunities and needs for innovation in specific situations and determine where to find the required skills.
Finally, there are research projects, which are developed in collaboration between universities and the private sector.
