Spending on innovation among businesses is growing : this is according to an Istat report according to which the propensity for innovation in terms of digitalisation is increasing among SMEs (+4.3%), while it is decreasing among large companies (81.8%; -1.5 percentage points) due to a downsizing in services.
Industry is leading the innovation push among SMEs , representing 57.1% of the total, up 7 percentage points from the previous survey. For 73.3% of small and medium-sized enterprises, the primary objective is the introduction of process or product innovations , including through the use of Business Process Management (BPM) platforms that can help them optimize resources and workloads, streamline operations, and ensure monitoring of all stakeholders without significantly impacting the organization; only one in five companies has settled for introducing less "revolutionary" software or solutions.
And when companies decide to innovate, they opt for projects that, alongside the introduction of technology, include initiatives that affect the organization of work and people , modifying processes and products, as well as IT equipment. From this perspective, the average expenditure per employee is around 7,800 euros, with peaks of 9,600 euros in industry and a minimum of 4,900 in construction.
