Although the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has triggered an unprecedented rush to digitalization, some are still struggling to implement a broad and comprehensive digital transformation.
At the conference " Digital Innovation Objective: Next Gen EU to Transform Italian SMEs," held during the first edition of the Digital Innovation Observatory in SMEs, the results of a survey conducted in collaboration with Capterra on the level of digital maturity of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises were presented.
In this regard, an interesting acceleration in the adoption of digital document management and cloud services has emerged, with the SMEs involved now demonstrating greater resilience and improved productivity and economic performance. However, there is also a downside that many companies are still struggling to address, and it strongly concerns the acquisition of digital skills.
While 9 out of 10 SMEs have adopted electronic solutions for managing corporate documentation (69% have chosen cloud technologies), 4 out of 10 companies have experienced a significant lack of know-how; 42% of SMEs, in fact, reported a low level of digital skills, a figure still too high to align with trends in other European countries.
The lack of digital skills is a well-known issue in Italy, yet digital technologies exist that allow organizations lacking specialized resources to independently create professional applications for managing data, documents, and business processes No-Code platform , which, unlike Low- Code platforms, allows any type of organization to develop its own software applications in-house without knowledge of typical programming languages.
A solution that can certainly meet the needs of those companies where there is a shortage of IT skills and personnel and which are in dire need of accelerating their digital transformation .
