manufacturing SMEs have understood the importance of digitalizing their operations and implemented plans that have also involved their supply chains: this is the snapshot captured by the Mecspe Observatory with data relating to the first six months of 2018.
The analysis shows that six out of 10 manufacturing companies have significantly transformed themselves thanks to digital technology ; this figure highlights a significant step forward for the sector considering that, overall, only 37.8% of Italian companies have completed innovative 'Industry 4.0' projects that have affected their entire business, while 47.4% have invested significantly in digital technology and 9.6% have introduced only a few changes.
The research also lists the many factors that hinder digitalization; among these are the feeling of an uncertain relationship between investments and benefits (for 43.5% of companies), the significant financial commitments that some projects require (35.7%), the lack of internal expertise (26.2%), the backwardness of the companies they collaborate with (17.9%), and the fear of cyber attacks (4.8%).
To overcome these cultural and economic obstacles, initiatives to disseminate the results achieved by companies that have innovated by taking advantage of economic incentives and, above all, by identifying the technologies best suited to their needs continue to prove useful. For many Italian SMEs, BPM platforms have proven to be an excellent ally in addressing the digital revolution for numerous reasons: they don't require excessive investment, they can address concrete needs, they don't disrupt the organization but rather optimize processes , they integrate with existing technological equipment, and they guarantee high security standards. Furthermore, especially in the manufacturing sector, they can leverage the work of partners and supply chain companies innovation accelerators both internally and externally.
A cloud BPM , therefore, enables medium and large organizations to take a systemic approach to work, improving the interconnection between various departments in order to foster productivity and make the company competitive on the market quickly.
Here's an example of the value enabled by the Jamio openwork BPM platform for the manufacturing sector.
