The use of new technologies in Italy is growing, especially among the most mature enterprises in the market, with a focus on the adoption of IoT devices, Cloud services andArtificial Intelligence-based solutions. However, there is a though in this digital transition that confirms the Italian trend in the year just past, namely that 80 percent of enterprises composed of at least 10 employees continue to have a very low level of ICT adoption.
This is the finding of the Istat report "Enterprises and ICT", where it specifically states that in 2021 only 60.3 percent of Italian SMEs managed to reach at least a basic level of digital intensity, a sign that there is still a long way to go to reach "maturity."
Confirming the trend are data from "Desi Index", a methodology introduced by the European Commission that has been constantly monitoring the digital evolution of different member states and the effects of related national policies since 2015. In this regard, in fact, Italian SMEs rank tenth in the ranking about the issue of basic level digitalization.
So, Italian-driven businesses still remain under-digitized compared to other European countries, but the growth in demand for innovative infrastructure and services bodes well for the future for this model to be replicated by others, spurring more and more companies toward awareness of the opportunities offered by digital.
