Spending on innovation among businesses is growing: this is according to an Istat report which states that the innovative propensity for digitization is increasing among SMEs (+4.3 percent), while it is decreasing among large companies (81.8 percent; -1.5 percentage points) due to a downsizing in services.
Leading the innovation drive in SMEs is industry, which with 57.1 percent adds 7 percentage points to the figure from the previous survey. For 73.3 percent of SMEs, the first goal to be achieved is the introduction of process or product innovations, including through the use of BPM platforms that can help them optimize resources and work, simplify operations and ensure continuous control over all the figures involved without impacting the organization too much; only one in five firms were content to introduce less 'revolutionary' software or solutions.
And when companies decide to innovate, they opt for projects that, alongside the introduction of technology, include initiatives that affect the organization of work and people, changing processes and products, as well as IT equipment. With this in mind, the average expenditure per employee is around 7,800 euros, with peaks of 9,600 euros in industry and a low of 4,900 in construction.
