Industry 4.0 and 30 percent growth: entrepreneurial Italy toward shifting gears

Italian companies seem to be increasingly convinced of the need to innovate for Industry 4.0.
This is shown by data collected by the Industry 4.0 Observatory of the School of Management of the Milan Polytechnic: technologies that enable companies to digitize their processes, IT solutions and related services are growing, for a total value worth between 2.3 and 2.4 billion euros, 84 percent of which is made to Italian companies and the rest as exports, showing a growth of 30 percent compared to last year.

Investment is thus increasing, but so is awareness: only 2.5 percent of companies say they are not familiar with the topic, 15 percent are in the exploratory stage, and 55 percent say they have already implemented 4.0 solutions. Help in this regard has also come from IT companies that produce innovative solutions, which are committed to spreading a new digital culture by disseminating success stories, data and ideal solutions for implementing strategic digitization plans and facilitating the development of new skills among workers.

Also moving in this vein is the work undertaken by Openwork, which has long launched projects to bring companies closer to digitization issues: innovative aperitifs, meetings with stakeholders and entrepreneurs, round tables, and innovation guides, all means designed to tell success stories related to the introduction of Business Process Management technologies within companies.

Tools designed with the aim of sharing insights into the growth opportunities related to the reorganization of work and business thanks to information technologies such as cloud and BPM platforms, which can be introduced gradually, without disrupting the company's structure, and can support development. The result is that more and more companies, from the manufacturing sector first and the service sector later, have begun to familiarize themselves with Industry 4.0 issues and concretely started to rethink their production realities and how to improve them with an effective and sustainable Digital Program.
