IDC (International Data Corporation), a market research specialist, says that 37 percent of companies have adopted a "cloud first" strategy associated with the public cloud for launching innovative digital services. If we add to this figure about 75 percent of those organizations that instead use a softer, "cloud also" approach, we see that three out of four companies are using the public cloud to manage business processes and digital services in general.
So thanks to this trend, enterprises can now benefit from tailor-made solutions that meet specific needs while at the same time ensuring the highest level of flexibility, scalability and time-to-market, the exact opposite of those who still have outdated, rigid and slow infrastructures.
In fact, the goal of enterprises should be to reach the highest level of maturity even through the implementation and use of cloud technologies, so that they can benefit from the highest possible return. This is because moving to the cloud means making the company more agile and prepared for the changes imposed by the market, as well as simplifying standardization processes and securing the large amount of corporate data.
In light of the potential benefits, then, the question is no longer when to migrate, but why not already; below are the results of the analysis conducted by IDC (found on their official website).
"According to a 2018 survey of 1,857 companies worldwide conducted by IDC, at the top of the list of achievements of enterprises in advanced level of maturity in using the cloud is not cost reduction. Maybe you can start with this goal at the beginning of the migration path, but the major benefits then become others. In the very first place, for about 70 percent of respondents, is increased IT security; in second place, for 65 percent, increased business agility; and in third place, for just over 60 percent, a simplification and standardization of IT infrastructure and application platforms. Closing out the "Top 5" benefits are increased IT staff productivity and faster access to new features."
