A new record for Puglia in the most advanced digital technologies in healthcare.
It is "Smart Health Platform," the project with which AReSS Puglia participated (as the leader of a team of technological partners composed of Openwork, Sincon, Tera, I-Tel and the health facility Fondazione Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza IRCCS) in the national competition announced by ProMIS - International Health Brick Program, which promotes the Health of Regions in Europe and the World.
In the competition titled "Agile Open Innovation Tools Accelerating Digital Transformation of Processes and Products in Health Care," Smart Health Platform won a valuable 3rd place. In fact, the project responds to the needs of clinicians about constant monitoring and telehealth for chronic patients from their homes, enabling them to model a diagnostic therapeutic care plan (PDTA) in digital format and customized to the health condition of the patient taken care of by the healthcare facility.
At the core of Smart Health's technology architecture is Jamio openwork, Openwork 's cloud and "zero-code" BPM platform, which enables the management and monitoring of PDTA progress, the integration of telehealth features through the use of various multi-parameter devices and a fitbit for sleep quality with which patients are equipped in order to check the therapeutic adherence of patients with chronic diseases.
Testing of the Smart Health Platform took place in early 2020 (at the IRCCS "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza" in San Giovanni Rotondo) on some young multiple sclerosis patients followed from home. The results obtained confirmed a qualitative improvement in the service offered through a rapid and timely exchange of information between clinicians and patients.
In Dr. Leone's medical opinion, Smart Health Platform has great potential and could be deployed immediately in the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza Hospital to telehealth follow up at least 60 chronic patients.
"The system has been validated to the full satisfaction of physicians and patients and has enabled detailed tracking of the entire pathway, receiving valuable information at every stage, thus avoiding the long periods of information gap between follow-up visits . - explains Dr. Maurizio Leone, director S.C. Neurology IRCCS "Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza " - Through the platform, moreover, we can intercept drug side effects and changes in symptomatology over time, allowing us to intervene effectively and promptly on therapy. "
AReSS Puglia also believed from the beginning in the platform's potential as one of the best practices for the digitization of regional healthcare, so much so that it nominated the research project for the PROMIS Competition and chose to represent it as the lead partner.
"We are very pleased that the PROMIS Open Innovation initiative in which AReSS decided to participate led to the awarding of SmartHealthPlatform, " says Giovanni Gorgoni, AReSS Puglia General Director. "The national initiative was preceded, only in Puglia and by AReSS' choice, by an unprecedented interlocution with local actors of innovation in healthcare, certain as we were that the good and feasible ideas were already there and only needed the right path. So they were. Now is the time to demonstrate that good ideas - even award-winning ones - can become everyday practice and tools for citizens, patients and professionals. And just as we have not failed in our mission as discoverers of innovators, we will not now fail in the equally important mission of making things happen."
Also pleased is Openwork President Salvatore Latronico:
"This award takes on a double meaning. For Openwork, for years engaged in the implementation of technologies for Business Process Management, it is the recognition of a leadership and validity of an intuition, on which we have been betting for a long time, that the application of such innovative technologies can be a great accelerator for the digitization of PDTAs; for the territory it is the confirmation of how to systematize skills and products of different organizations, according to the paradigms of digital ecosystems, is a strategic and rewarding approach. Given the clinical validation at Casa Sollievo, coupled with the recognition of AReSS Puglia, which selected us for the national PROMIS competition, we hope soon to see extensive experimentation of Smart Health in different contexts."
